3. Assessment of Japanese Language Proficiency [Form]
Please ask your Japanese instructor at your home university to fill out an Assessment of Japanese Language Proficiency for you. If you have taken any Japanese qualification exams, such as the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) or the Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students (EJU), please submit the score reports for these exams, as well.
You must submit an Assessment of Japanese Language Proficiency. If you are unable to do so, please consult us regarding other documents that we may be able to accept as proof of your level of Japanese language skills before applying.

4. Application for Certificate of Eligibility [Form] [Sample]
Upon approval of your admission, we will apply for a Certificate of Eligibility (COE) from the Tokyo Regional Immigration Services Bureau on your behalf (issuance of the COE takes about two months).

5. Letter of Recommendation
To be written by a professor or an academic advisor at your home university.

6. Evidence of Financial Support
You must provide an official bank statement to prove that you have sufficient funds to cover your stay in Japan for the period of the exchange (six months or one year). Your living expenses are estimated to be approximately JPY 80,000 per month. The statement must be for a bank account held by you, your guardian, or a guarantor. A statement from an organization that is providing you with a scholarship or similar funding may be acceptable.

7. Certificate of Enrollment
To be issued by your home university.

8. Latest university transcripts
To be issued by your home university.

9. Essay
You must submit an essay of at least 500 words in English or preferably 800 characters in Japanese. Your essay should indicate your motivation, goals, and plans in relation to what you expect to accomplish by enrolling in this exchange program in Japan.

10. Photocopy of passport (main page)
Please submit a photocopy of your passport showing your photograph, name, nationality, date of issue, date of expiry, place of birth, issuing authority, and passport number.

11. Photo in JPEG format
The photo must include your full face, showing your head from the top of your hair to your shoulders, against a plain white background. You must not wear a hat or cap. For details, please see the accompanying COE sample. The photo must have been taken within three months of the submission date.
