3. Qualifications and application requirements
- A Master's degree or higher in an EFL-related area or applied linguistics.
- Research and educational experience at the university level or equivalent.
- Native or near native English proficiency with sufficient Japanese proficiency for general administrative work. Applications from people of all nationalities and backgrounds are welcomed.

Dokkyo University, Faculty of Foreign Languages, Department of English.
5. Duties
Teaching: Academic English skills courses in the Department of English, (e.g. Reading and Writing Skills, Academic Communication Skills, Lecture Workshop).
Teaching load: A minimum of eight 100-minute classes per week.
Administrative responsibilities: Involvement in curriculum design and planning; coordination of classes--for the equivalent of one class per week (100 minutes).
Required to be on campus for four days a week.
6. Appointment
Beginning on April 1, 2027
7. Compensation
Basic pay will be calculated according to the candidate's professional experience, as of April 1, 2027, in accordance with the Dokkyo University salary scale (see below). A research allowance of 410,000 yen per year will be provided. Note that this position does not receive a bonus.
Notes:
Basic pay for non-tenure-track lecturers is calculated according to the number of years engaged in research and teaching at the university level as follows:
More than 19 years of experience --- 550,000 yen per month
12-19 years of experience --- 450,000 yen per month
8-11 years of experience --- 350,000 yen per month
Less than 8 years of experience --- 300,000 yen per month
The basic pay covers six 100-minute classes a week. For classes above six, 23,100 yen / month for each class is added to the base pay. The total number of classes per week cannot exceed ten.
Housing allowance: 20,000 yen per month.
Dependent allowance: 20,000 yen per month for a spouse; 8,500 yen per month for each dependent other than a spouse (subject to eligibility criteria).
Local transportation costs.

9. Selection process
- First Stage
- Document screening
- Second Stage
- After screening, short-listed candidates will be invited to an interview, which will include a teaching demonstration, at Dokkyo University.
- There is a possibility of preliminary Zoom interviews (or other methods, such as confirmation by email) before the final in-person interviews.
- An interview will be conducted in both Japanese and English. These interviews are scheduled to take place in early September.
- Candidates will be asked to submit a 14-week syllabus (in English) for a proposed course.
- During the interview, candidates will be asked to deliver a 20-minute mock lesson in English based on the submitted syllabus.
※Please note: Additional documents may be requested during this stage. Travel and accommodation expenses for the interview will be the responsibility of the applicant.
10. Notification of results
Applicants will be notified of the result by email once the selection process has been completed. All personal information will be kept strictly confidential and will not be used for any purpose other than the selection process.
11. Term of employment
3 years (renewable for an additional 3 years by mutual agreement for a maximum of 6 years)
