授業の目的・内容
/Course Objectives
This course focuses on select individuals and groups of people whose lives were affected by Japan’s
colonization of Hokkaido, Okinawa, Taiwan, and the Korean Peninsula. After learning basic information about
the political history of Japanese empire, we will examine how different people promoted, negotiated, resisted, and assimilated to the empire. These case studies will help you develop a more nuanced and transnational
understanding of Japan’s modern history within East Asia.
