授業の目的・内容
/Course Objectives
This semi-elective course refines the advanced writing skills developed in previous writing courses, focusing on the production of professional, research-based texts. Students will move beyond simple argumentation to develop the ILMRDC structure (Introduction, Literature Review, Methods, Results, Discussion, and Conclusion) or the formal research essay. Following a process-oriented approach, students will learn to analyze, evaluate, and synthesize diverse scholarly sources into a coherent 2,000-word research paper. Key areas include developing academic vocabulary, improving flow, and using APA style to integrate evidence persuasively.

/Teaching method and Attention the course
Classes are conducted as student-centered workshops designed to spark a lasting interest in academic inquiry. Rather than passive learning, students take the lead by conducting their own research and applying the ILMRDC framework. Through a process-oriented approach, a 2,000-word research paper is built section-by-section. This involves collaborative brainstorming, peer synthesis, and detailed instructor feedback on content and grammatical accuracy.

Success in this course requires a proactive mindset and a commitment to the revision process. As students explore a topic of their interest, they are expected to manage their schedule independently to meet drafting deadlines. Multiple revisions are mandatory; a final paper cannot be submitted without its preliminary drafts. All work must be typed, professionally formatted, and follow APA academic standards.

/Before After Study
Before Study: Students are expected to conduct independent research, including locating scholarly articles, narrowing research questions, and preparing data for analysis. Reading assigned reference sections from the textbook and preparing draft outlines for the classes is essential.

After Study: The primary focus is the iterative revision process.

Students are expected to spend approximately 90–120 minutes per week previewing and reviewing course content.

1 Orientation & Academic Style Introduction to research writing. Discussion on the purpose and strategy of academic inquiry. After: Review potential areas of interest for research.
2 Topic Discovery & Feasibility Sparking Inquiry: Identifying personal interests and narrowing broad themes. Before: Prepare a list of three topics of personal interest.
After: Finalize the research topic.
3 Introduction (I) & CARS Model Establishing a research territory and identifying a niche. After: Draft the research niche and purpose statement (approx. 200–300 words).
4 Literature Review (L) - 1 Techniques for locating and evaluating scholarly sources. Citations and avoiding plagiarism.
Before: Locate four scholarly sources related to the chosen topic.
5 Literature Review (L) - 2 Synthesis of Sources: Learning to show similarities and differences between authors After: Draft the Literature Review section (approx. 500–600 words).
6 Methods (M) - Procedures Describing research methodology and procedures. Focus on passive voice and linking phrases. Before: Outline the specific steps or data used in the project.
7 Results (R) - Data Commentary Structure of data commentary and highlighting key findings. Location statements and summary. After: Draft the Methods and Results sections (approx. 600–700 words combined).
8 Results (R) - Strength of Claim Using hedging and boosters to qualify findings accurately. Before: Compare current findings with previous research.
9 Analysis & Discussion (AD) - 1 Interpreting results and discussing limitations. Before: Compare current findings with previous research.
10 Analysis & Discussion (AD) - 2 Concluding the research paper. Future research recommendations and summarizing outcomes. After: Draft the Discussion and Conclusion sections (approx. 400–500 words).
11 Flow & Textual Cohesion Using linking words and phrases to ensure logical transitions between all ILMRAD sections. After: Apply flow techniques to the integrated 2,000-word draft.
12 Evaluative Language Developing evaluative language to critically assess the context of the research. Before: Read a peer’s draft and prepare constructive feedback.
13 APA Citation & Formatting Technical workshop on APA referencing and formal research paper presentation. Before: Ensure all external sources are properly cited in APA style.
14 Final Submission Presentation of core research findings and submission of the completed 2,000-word article. Final: Submit the final research article.
