/Course Objectives
The purpose of this course is to improve students’ reading comprehension skills. Specifically, students are expected to understand English passages accurately and deeply, as well as to think about key points more critically through intensive and extensive reading. Furthermore, they will develop reading fluency, build vocabulary, and improve their ability to express their opinions on reading topics in English. This course helps students achieve the high level of English proficiency stated in the department’s DP (Diploma Policy).
授業の形式・方法と履修上の注意
/Teaching method and Attention the course
・Lessons are held face-to-face in the classroom.
・Basically, you will read the textbook (The Culture Map) while working collaboratively with members of your group. Specifically, you will (1) make a report on your assigned pages and submit it in Manaba, and (2) give a presentation about it to your group members. You will complete (1) and (2) above at least twice during the course. Feedback on each report will be given to you in Manaba before your presentation. In the first lesson (orientation), your assigned pages and groups will be decided.
・You will take the final test at the end of the course. Feedback on the test will be given to you in class the following week.
・A vocabulary test will be administered several times during the course. Details about the testing style and the chapters covered in each test will be given in class.
・Lessons are basically conducted in English, but Japanese may be used when necessary. Students are expected to use English as much as possible in class.
