授業の目的・内容 ／Course Objectives	This course develops skills for translating English to Japanese. Students learn translation strategies, common mistranslations, and professional practices. Materials include magazine articles (Newsweek), poems (Robert Frost, etc.), fiction (Mark Twain's "Huckleberry Finn," etc.), and English-language films (Japanese subtitles/dubbing). Translation and interpretation as careers will also be discussed. 本講義は、英語から日本語への翻訳スキルを養成します。翻訳ストラテジー、よくある誤訳、プロの翻訳実務について学びます。教材は雑誌記事（Newsweek等）、詩（ロバート・フロスト等）、小説（マーク・トウェイン「ハックルベリー・フィン」等）、英語映画（日本語字幕・吹替）を使用します。翻訳・通訳の職業についても紹介します。
授業の形式・方法と履修上の注意 ／Teaching method and Attention the course	Format: Lectures mainly in Japanese presenting weekly excerpts; students do short translations in class, then compare and discuss them with classmates. Note: Class capacity may be capped at 40 students. 形式：毎週の抜粋を主に日本語で講義し、学生は授業内で短い翻訳を行い、クラスメートとそれらを比較・議論します。 注：定員40名を上限とする場合があります。 Assignments: Weekly translation exercises; final report (self-evaluation) due by the last class. Estimated weekly homework: 1–2 hours (much more for the final report). 課題：毎週の翻訳練習を行い、期末レポートは最終クラスまでに提出（自己評価を書く場合もある）。毎週の平均学習時間：1〜2時間（期末レポート時はその何倍も）

事前・事後学修の内容 ／Before After Study	After each class, review the translation examples (or excerpts) introduced by the teacher in the lecture. If there are assigned materials, read them before the next class. There is only one major assignment:  a final report (and possibly a self-evaluation), due before the last class of the semester. 毎週のクラス放課後、講義中に先生が紹介した例文（または翻訳の抜粋）を復習すること。指定された資料がある場合は、次回の授業までにそれも読むこと。唯一の大がかりな課題は最終クラスまでに提出される期末レポート（自己評価もあるかもしれません）。

評価方法 ／Evaluation	Grading: 33.3% for attendance/participation, 66.7% for final report and self-evaluation. Attendance: 5+ absences=disqualified (Ministry of Education rule). Late (within first 30 min)　="1/3 absent" (3 lates=1 absence). AI Policy: Do not use AI for translations! Penalty up to 20 points; serious cases may result in expulsion. 成績配分：出席・参加  33.3%、期末レポート・自己評価  66.7%。 出席：5回以上欠席＝単位取得不可（文科省規定）。30分以内の遅刻＝「1/3欠席」（3回で1欠席）。 AI方針：翻訳にAI使用禁止！違反は最大20点減点、重大な場合は退学処分も考えられる。
関連科目 ／Related Subjects	I also offer a class in the fall semester about JP→EN translation (mainly literary works). As the contents are different, you can take both courses. 秋学期：日英翻訳（主に文学作品）の講義も担当します。内容が異なるから両方の履修可能。
備考 ／Notes	Materials to be distributed online weekly. 関連資料は毎週オンラインで配信します。
到達目標 ／Learning Goal	中級レベルの文法・論理・教養・表現等の総合的な英語力を習得し、文化的発想の違いにも目を配りながら英文を的確に和訳し、ならびに、和文を的確に英訳できるようになる。
