授業の目的・内容 /Course Objectives |
This course examines Japan through the lens of photography. It takes up as its starting point four modules from “Behind Camera,” an open-source website on the history of photography, feminist art history, and Japan’s modern history (https://behindthecamerajapan.arts.ubc.ca/). We will learn about four major topics at the center and periphery of Japan’s society: the imperial family, Ainu, environmental pollution, and Okinawa/Ryukyu Islands. The goal of this course is for students to deepen their knowledge of Japan’s past and present, and to expand their own perspective on Japan beyond Tokyo. |
