授業の目的・内容 ／Course Objectives	English for Media Literacy (originally "Media English I") is for intermediate-level students who want to explore how worldwide media uses English. The first half focuses on English in advertising and travel industries—specifically, promotional videos produced by national tourism organizations (e.g., Japan's JNTO) to attract foreign visitors. We examine how non-English-speaking countries use English for this purpose, and research various travel literature. Students then choose a country and give a travel presentation (individual or pairs, depending on class size). The second half shifts to print media and traditional journalism. After comparing newspapers and magazines linguistically and aesthetically, we explore their business models and future viability. In teams of 4-6, students produce their own newspaper—writing and editing real articles. On the last day, all teams "publish" and view each other's work on screen, with real-time feedback from the teacher. 授業の形式・方法と履修上の注意 ／Teaching method and Attention the course	Lectures and discussions. Feedback given online or in class. Active participation expected. Assignments: Weekly note-taking/summaries; self-introduction presentation (10%); travel presentation (individual or pairs); group newspaper project (4-6 students). Weekly homework: 1-2 hours. Self-introductions (Week 2) serve as low-stakes presentation practice before the travel presentations, and help students assess potential partners for newspaper teams. Real-time feedback is given after each presentation. To prevent AI use, students must turn off phones during class. 事前・事後学修の内容 ／Before After Study	After each class, review the materials introduced by the teacher. If there are assigned materials, read them before the next class. 評価方法 ／Evaluation	Grading: 25% attendance/participation, 10% self-introduction, 25% travel pair presentation, 40% group newspaper project. Note: These percentages are subject to change. Attendance: 5+ absences = disqualified (Ministry of Education rule). Late (within first 30 min) = "1/3 absent" (3 lates = 1 absence). AI Policy: Do not use AI for presentations or articles!
