授業の目的・内容
/Course Objectives
This course aims to develop students' systematic expertise in qualitative research methods applied to language, culture, and education studies.

In language education and research, qualitative approaches are increasingly vital for understanding learners' "experiences," "perceptions," and "cultural contexts" beyond numerical data. Through reading qualitative research papers in English, students will master methodologies such as interviews, observation, and discourse analysis.
授業の形式・方法と履修上の注意
/Teaching method and Attention the course
This course will be conducted face-to-face on campus. It will combine lectures, guided reading of qualitative research papers, and class discussions. Students will read research articles written in English and examine how researchers design qualitative studies, collect data, and interpret findings. Key qualitative methods, such as interviews, observation, and discourse analysis, will be introduced and discussed.

Students are expected to complete the assigned readings before class and actively participate in discussions and analytical activities. In addition, group presentations reporting on a research study will be required. A lecture quiz will be administered after each lecture, so students are expected to bring their laptops to every class. Students without a laptop will not be allowed to take the quiz.

More than four absences will result in an automatic failure in this course. GenAI use is not permitted when writing reflection reports.
