授業の目的・内容 /Course Objectives |
This course aims to develop students’ ability to understand and engage with academic topics in English. Through theme-based reading materials, students will strengthen their comprehension skills and learn to identify key ideas, supporting details, and underlying meanings in texts. The course also aims to support students in expressing their ideas and reasoning clearly in spoken English. By engaging with academic topics, students will learn to formulate opinions, respond to different viewpoints, and communicate their thoughts in a coherent and logical manner. By the end of the course, students will be better prepared to read academic texts with confidence and to participate in discussions on a range of topics in an English-medium academic environment. |

授業の形式・方法と履修上の注意 /Teaching method and Attention the course |
Classes are conducted in an interactive, student-centered manner, with a focus on theme-based reading and discussion. Each class is organized around a central topic, and preparatory reading or research may be assigned in advance. In class, students engage in pair and group discussions, whole-class discussions, and short oral tasks based on the readings or videos. The course aims to develop students’ reading comprehension, critical thinking, and discussion skills in English. Functional language for discussion (e.g. agreeing, disagreeing, clarifying opinions, and taking turns) is introduced and practiced regularly. English is used as the main language of communication during class activities, and students are expected to participate actively and respectfully. Regular attendance and preparation are essential, as this course places strong importance on in-class interaction and collaborative learning. |
