授業の目的・内容 /Course Objectives |
The goal in the Writing Skills for Academic Purposes I course is to develop students writing and critical thinking abilities in English, consolidating and developing the essay writing skills they will have developed in the first year. They should be challenged to produce longer academic texts, and engage with a wide variety of academic fields. Overall Objectives 1. To consolidate their understanding of what constitutes a "good essay". 2. To help students plan and organize coherent essays. 3. To help students learn to analyze and edit their work through peer review. 4. To help students use a variety of academic sources while critically analyzing their validity and relevance. 5. To help students develop their own voice within the framework of an academic writing style, and develop their written fluency. 6. To provide continued practice in the use of citations and references consistent with APA guidelines. | ||||||||||

This class will be held in person in the classroom. Students will use the first half of the textbook in the spring and the second half in the fall. Students will read and write a variety of essay styles. Students will have time in class to write and edit their essays. Students will receive written feedback on their essays as part of the writing process. | ||||||||||
