授業の目的・内容 ／Course Objectives	This course introduces the basics of academic writing, focusing on understanding the following tasks: 1. Proper paragraph structure, unity, and coherence 2. Proper source citation to avoid plagiarism 3. Direct & indirect quotes, paraphrasing 4. Essay structure and organization 5. Process essays (explaining how to do or make something, step by step)  and cause-and-effect essays 6. Timed writing and peer editing 本講義は、アカデミックライティングの基礎を紹介します。学生が主に学ぶのは次の通りです。 1. 段落構成、統一性、一貫性 2. 引用の方法と剽窃の回避 3. 直接・間接引用とiiと言い換え 4.  作文の構成と作成 (組み立て) 5. いわゆるプロセスエッセイと因果関係エッセイの執筆 6. 時間制限付きライティングとピアエディティング The aim of this course--as its title indicates--is to train students to be better writers in an academic setting. It is imperative, though, that this be done sans AI, as an overreliance on AI at this stage would only hinder the development of essential critical thinking skills.  Accordingly, students' use in class of any device with AI connectivity will be banned (the teacher is exempted for administrative reasons). 本講義の目的は、その名称が示す通り、学術的環境において学生の文章力を向上させることにあります。ただし、この段階でのAIへの過度な依存は、批判的思考力という不可欠な能力の発達を阻害するだけであるため、AIを使用せずに実施することが不可欠です。したがって、授業中にAI接続機能を備えたあらゆるデバイスは使用禁止です（管理上、先生は対象外）。
授業の形式・方法と履修上の注意 ／Teaching method and Attention the course	Each class will begin with a short review of the previous week's work—a snap quiz may be given 20-40% of the time—followed by a short lecture on the new topic for the day, about which the students will have received advance notification. The students, already divided into pre-assigned teams of 2-4  people, will help each other understand the new topic in study-group fashion, using only English as a rule (to help them brush up their speaking and listening skills). If there is enough time, several students may then be called upon to share their writing with the rest of the class. Don't forget to bring a pen and notebook! There may also be longer review tests in the 7th (midterm) and 14th (final) weeks. 各授業は、前週の学習内容の短い復習から始まります（20～40％の確率で抜き打ちの小クイズを実施する場合があります）。その後、その日の新テーマに関する短い講義が行われます。この新テーマについては、事前に学生に通知されます。事前に割り当てられた2～4人のチームに分かれた学生たちは、勉強会形式で互いに新テーマを理解し合います。原則として英語のみを使用します（話す力と聞く力を磨くためです）。時間があれば、数名の学生が自分の文章をクラス全体で共有するよう求められる場合があります。ペンとノートを忘れずに！第7週と第14週には長めのテストが行われる場合もあります。

事前・事後学修の内容 ／Before After Study	Students are expected to do approximately half an hour of preparation before class (reading assigned materials) and an equivalent period of time after class for review and writing. 授業前に約30分の予習（指定資料の読解）、授業後に約30分の復習とライティングが求められます。

評価方法 ／Evaluation	Grading: 40% in-class writing tasks and participation, 40% essays (research, outline, drafts), 20% quizzes and review tests. Attendance: 5+ absences = disqualified (Ministry of Education rule). Late (within first 30 min) = "1/3 absent" (3 lates = 1 absence). AI Policy: Do not use AI for essays! Penalty up to 20 points; serious cases may result in expulsion. 成績配分：授業内ライティング・参加40%、エッセイ40%、クイズ・レビューテスト20%。 出席：5回以上欠席＝単位取得不可（文科省規定）。30分以内の遅刻＝「1/3欠席」（3回で1欠席）。 AI方針：エッセイ作成にはAIの使用を禁止！違反は最大20点減点、重大な場合は退学処分も考えられる。

備考 ／Notes	A new professor will take over this course from April 2026, so consider this syllabus as provisional. The new textbook should be chosen by March. 4月より本講座は新任教師が就任するので、このシラバスはあくまで暫定的とする。新教科書は3月頃決まる予定。
