授業の目的・内容 ／Course Objectives	To inspire students to enjoy writing and to learn to use writing effectively in their future academic courses and in their future work in society.
授業の形式・方法と履修上の注意 ／Teaching method and Attention the course	Objective The objective of this course is to improve student academic English and overall writing ability. Vocabulary building, grammatical structures and creative content will be included in handouts and textbook activities. There will be two papers per semester, a midterm and final paper on a topic of the student’s choice. Students will also have many opportunities to discuss their ideas with partners and to check each other’s papers for grammatical mistakes. Students should use a laptop in class for best results, writing the papers in class where the instructor can read and answer questions from students. Papers should be printed out and handed in to the teacher at the assigned times. Midterm paper 300 words; Final paper 450 words.

評価方法 ／Evaluation	This course will use handouts and a textbook. The class will be broken into two or three sections each week normally, starting with using handouts with explanations from the teacher to improve student writing ability. The textbook will teach basic writing skills on a variety of topics, not only on economics. Finally, the last part of the class may include a wide variety of activities such as board games to build vocabulary, videos to build listening skills etc. Students should have a clear file or folder to keep assignments and handouts in to be organized. Most homework will be simply to preview the next week’s text unit. Other homework will be to finish papers or prepare for assignments and projects. Homework will be minimal (15 -20 min.) but on some weeks may be 30 minutes or one hour per week. Grading: Journal 20 points; Mid term paper 25 points: Final paper 35 points: other activities and participation 20 points
