授業の目的・内容
/Course Objectives
The goal in the Writing Skills for Academic Purposes I course is to develop students writing and critical thinking abilities in English, consolidating and developing the essay writing skills they will have developed in the first year. They should be challenged to produce longer academic texts, and engage with a wide variety of academic fields. Overall Objectives 1. To consolidate their understanding of what constitutes a "good essay". 2. To help students plan and organize coherent essays. 3. To help students learn to analyze and edit their work through peer review. 4. To help students use a variety of academic sources while critically analyzing their validity and relevance. 5. To help students develop their own voice within the framework of an academic writing style, and develop their written fluency. 6. To provide continued practice in the use of citations and references consistent with APA guidelines.
授業の形式・方法と履修上の注意
/Teaching method and Attention the course
This class is held in person in the classroom.  Students will use the first half of the textbook in the spring and the second half of the textbook in the fall.  Students will have time to write and edit essays in class.  Students will have written feedback on their essays as part of the writing process.

/Before After Study
Before each class, you will complete short preparatory tasks, such as reading sample texts, brainstorming ideas, or answering reflection questions to build a foundation for the day’s lesson. During class, you will actively participate in discussions, group activities, or writing exercises designed to apply these concepts. After class, your tasks will include revising drafts, completing assignments, or practicing specific skills covered in class. Peer feedback may also be part of your work.
