授業の目的・内容 ／Course Objectives	The focus of the class this semester is the researched essay. Students will continue writing essays, but they become more academic in focus. Students will learn what constitutes good writing and they will develop skills in organizing and structuring their writing at the paragraph and essay level. Students will learn how to cite sources and to provide references. Overall Objectives 1.  Understand what academic writing is 2.  Understand how to use outside materials to support writing and to cite them properly 3.  Develop stronger sentences and a larger vocabulary
授業の形式・方法と履修上の注意 ／Teaching method and Attention the course	This will be conducted in seminar style, where we will examine the textbook and discuss its contents. Students will work in pairs and small groups at times and engage in individual writing at others. We will complete all of the chapters in this textbook this semester.

事前・事後学修の内容 ／Before After Study	After each class, complete any exercise that was not covered in class (30 minutes). Students will be assigned weekly homework, which will include exercises from the online workbook and various writing assignments from first to final drafts (1-3 hours).
