授業の目的・内容 /Course Objectives |
Movies are a rich source for learning about different themes and how people express their ideas in English. By the end of the course students should be more able to 1. Express themselves in English in different situations. 2. Be more aware of how different people use English to express themselves. 3. Use a script to internalize the language of key scenes to understand better how English is used to achieve communicative purposes. 4. Understand and use technical English vocabulary to discuss social and environmental issues. 5. To understand and write a critical review of a movie. 6. Improve group working and presentation skills. |

授業の形式・方法と履修上の注意 /Teaching method and Attention the course |
This course will be conducted face to face on campus. The course will begin with a general introduction to movies and how they can be used to improve English proficiency. Students are encouraged to talk about movies in general and share scenes from movies they have enjoyed. In the second part of the course students will watch clips from two movies, complete worksheets with questions about the scenes they are watching. Students will also be given opportunities to act out the scripts of key scenes in the movies and then compare their performance with the actors. We will discuss how movies are reviewed and discuss the movies using the same things that reviewers look at. At the end of the course, students will write a critical review of a movie of their choice and make a short presentation based on their critical review. | ||||||||||
