授業の目的・内容 ／Course Objectives	The purpose of this course is to help students improve their English language skills of reading. Through extensive reading, students are expected not only to increase English vocabulary and to grasp simply the meaning of the text, but also to read aloud, to predict the context before reading, and to recognise patterns in paragraphs and of text orgnisation, etc. In addition to such reading skills for English, students will also develop critical reading skills to understand the content of the English texts in depth and accurately. This will help the students to form their own opinions while learning about various societies and cultures as well as relevant and timely topics from around the world.
授業の形式・方法と履修上の注意 ／Teaching method and Attention the course	Basically, this course is conducted in English but explained in Japanese where necessary. In order to learn correct, natural and real English, the students are strongly recommended to use an English-English dictionary.  Quizzes and tests given in class will be explained and feedback will be provided on the spot or in the next class. Generally, this classes will be conducted face-to-face, but on-demand delivery-type classes would also be used partly to supplement regular classes, including for unforeseen circumstances. If there are any changes, you will be informed on manaba. Note: This course syllabus might be changed if needed after starting.
事前・事後学修の内容 ／Before After Study	Students are expected to come to class fully (or at least adequately) prepared. Specifically, at the beginning of the ordinary class, a confirmation test on the previous class will be given. On the other hand, at the end of the class, students will be given instructions on the prior learning for the next class. As a result, a total of at least 180 minutes of out-of-class study is required.

評価方法 ／Evaluation	Final grade will be based on the following: 30% Preparedness and contribution for class; 30% Quizzes and Writing Assignments; and 40% Mid-term and Final Examinations.
