授業の目的・内容
/Course Objectives
This one-semester course is compulsory for first-year students and takes place twice a week and is complementary to the spring RWS I course. The course will continue to build on the reading and writing skills developed in the spring, particularly consolidating the basics of essay structure, while introducing students to a broader range of text types in both reading and writing, such as: compare/contrast, cause/effect, expository and narrative texts. RWS II should also cover citations and referencing in depth, following APA guidelines.

Overall Objectives- Reading
1. Continued vocabulary building
2. Recognizing more complex grammatical and sentence structures
3. Making inferences from texts to increase global comprehension
4. Recognizing organizational patterns and outlining texts (compare/contrast, cause/effect and expository)

Overall Objectives- Writing
1. To consolidate and build upon the understanding of essay structural elements developed in RWS I.
2. To practice writing other essay types such as compare/contrast, cause/effect, expository or narrative.
3. To consolidate the understanding of academic stylistic and genre features developed in RWS I while broadening knowledge of the range of expressions used in academic contexts.

This course focuses on developing students’ combined reading and writing skills, specifically: "vocabulary," "grammar" and "reading" skills, as stated in DP 2 for them to acquire the basics of both "written receptive skills," (reading) and "written productive skills," (writing)as stated in the CP.
授業の形式・方法と履修上の注意
/Teaching method and Attention the course
The first lesson of each week will focus on introduction, explanation and demonstration of the writing process using a model for reading and writing. This will be followed by relevant application of skills to tasks for the model topic.
The second lesson of each week will focus on students using the writing process for exploration and application of skills to tasks for a topic of their choosing.
Updated and more detailed information will be provided in the first class.

Feedback will be provided by a score and comments for each written evaluation item given during the course.

Must have a PC with access to the internet, Microsoft Word/PowerPoint for every lesson throughout the course.

/Before After Study
Students should prepare before each lesson by completing assigned homework / tasks (30-60 minutes). Students should review lesson notes after each lesson and ensure all classwork is complete (30-60 minutes).
