授業の目的・内容 ／Course Objectives	この授業では、英語学科のディプロマポリシー（DP)やカリキュラムポリシー（CP)が示す「英語の運用能力を養成し、英語圏の言語・文学・文化・社会・国際関係などを理解するための専門知識を身につ けた、国際的視野に立つ教養人を育成する」ことを念頭に置いたうえで、以下の目的を設定する。 This one-semester course is compulsory for second-year students. Overall Objectives 1. To increase academic vocabulary and to further the development of vocabulary, and vocabulary building skills in general. 2. To automatize more accurate grammatical knowledge. 3. To develop comprehension skills for reading materials across different genres and topics. 4. To develop effective reading skills & deciphering academic texts (intensive reading, extensive reading, using visual/lexical & grammatical cues in academic texts). 5. To continue to develop reading strategies to read authentic texts/outside readers. 6. To recognize how authors use in-text citations, direct quotations and referencing. This course focuses on improving students’ "vocabulary," "grammar," "reading" skills and their "competence to think critically in English as well as hold discussions in English, without using Japanese," as stated in DP 2. Overall objectives are for students to acquire the basics of "written receptive skills" as stated in CP.
授業の形式・方法と履修上の注意 ／Teaching method and Attention the course	・予習してテキスト内容をほぼ理解している(インプットしている）ことを前提に、内容に関するコメントや感想を述べたり、聞き手に分かりやすく（とくにフレーズリーディングやプロミネンスに注意しながら）朗読したりすることで、理解した内容を相手に伝える(アウトプットする)練習を毎回行う。 ・毎回、小グループを作り、テキスト内容に関する各自の考えを紹介しながら、学生相互の批評を行う(ピア・アセスメント）アクティブラーニングの形式をとる。 ・３回を予定しているプレゼンテーションに関しては、評価基準にもとづいて口頭によるフィードバックを行う。 ・発表スキルの向上を重視するので、対面授業を基本とする。
事前・事後学修の内容 ／Before After Study	・事前学習は1時間程度をかけて、テキストの内容をほぼ理解できるようにしたうえで、1)テキストの設問の解答を考え、2)テキスト内容に対する自分の考えを例を用いながら説明できるようにし、3)フレーズリーディングやプロミネンスのスキルを使って相手に分かりやすいようにテキストを朗読できるように練習しておく。 ・事後学習も1時間程度をかけて、授業中に学んだ重要語を例文と一緒に覚えると同時に、テキストのトピック内容に関連する身近な具体例を授業で学んだ重要語を使いながら英語で説明できるようにしておくこと。

評価方法 ／Evaluation	以下のように評価を行う ・各回の英文をよく理解した上で、1)英文内容に関する自分の考えを表明できるか、2)フレーズリーディングやプロミネンスのスキルを使いながら、聞き手に上手に伝えることができるかについて毎回評価(5点×10回＝50点)を行い、口頭でフィードバックを行う。 ・中間プレゼンテーション(15点×2回＝30点)を行い、プレゼン後に口頭でコメントを行う。 ・最終プレゼンテーション(20点)を行い、プレゼン後に口頭でコメントを行う。 なお、評価においては、主に授業で学んだ重要語を使いながら、学習内容に関する自分の考えを表明できることを重視する。

備考 ／Notes	・授業に関するお知らせや資料配布はPorTa IIを使って行うので、獨協メールおよびPorTa IIをチェックする習慣をつけるように。 ・普段点を重視するので、定期試験は実施しない。
到達目標 ／Learning Goal	１年次の学習成果のうえに、英語の語彙をさらに増やすとともに英語読解力をさらに高め、日本語を介さず英語で論理的に思考できるようにする。
