授業の目的・内容
/Course Objectives
The aim of this course is to explore the English used in media, especially in video, magazines, and other print media. The emphasis in the first half of the semester will be on people, using online articles, videos and other information. Students will create a Power Point summary of their topic and make presentations to the groups. The second half will focus on places, and students will learn how to create a pamphlet format with content created in groups and printed out for in-class distribution.
This course is an elective course as stated in the CP, and supports fulfillment of the requirements and goals for graduation (DP).
授業の形式・方法と履修上の注意
/Teaching method and Attention the course
The class will be face-to-face, and conducted in English (although Japanese may be used when necessary). The online links and print documents for each class will be distributed before, during, or after class.
Students should have a separate 20-pocket A4 “pocket file” notebook for these prints and notes for each class. After we review the topic matter, students will break into groups to discuss issues and produce presentation materials.
At the end of each class, reflection essays will be handed in to be graded on a points-added system, and returned the following class, for filing in the notebook. Feedback about assignments will be given through online or in-class comments.
事前・事後学修の内容
/Before After Study
Before class, students will be expected to review the video or the text for that class.
After class, students should read through the reflection notes that have been returned to them, and put their own comment on the paper, to prepare for review for the mid-term and final exams.
