授業の目的・内容
/Course Objectives
The purpose of this course is to develop students’ overall reading ability. Specifically, students are expected to understand English passages effectively, accurately, and deeply as well as think about the author's points critically through intensive reading. In addition, RS II focuses on extensive reading. Students will build vocabulary and savor a book through reading books called "Graded Readers" (GR) which are appropriate to their English proficiency level. This course helps students achieve the high level of English proficiency stated in the department’s DP (Diploma Policy).
授業の形式・方法と履修上の注意
/Teaching method and Attention the course
・Lessons are held face-to-face in the classroom; however, classes might be switched to online distance learning (e.g. Zoom) due to changes in the COVID-19 situation.
・This course focuses on intensive reading & extensive reading.
・Lessons are basically conducted in English, but Japanese might be used when necessary. Students are expected to use English as much as they can in class.
事前・事後学修の内容
/Before After Study
Preparation (2 hours):  Write a report for the assigned pages of the textbook. Read graded readers (GR)  you like and write a book report.

Review (2 hours):You are expected to read the pages covered in each lesson again to expand your vocabulary. Also, you are encouraged to use "Quizlet" to work on vocabulary. A vocabulary test will be administered after each unit is completed. Details about testing style and what pages are covered in each test will be given in class.
