授業の目的・内容
/Course Objectives
1. To help students understand the typical structure of a ‘good’ essay
2. To help students understand (genre-specific) patterns of essay organization
3. To help students plan essays
4. To help students use a variety of references and utilize Internet sources
5. To help students revise and edit their essays
6. To help students develop computer literacy skills
7. To help students become more familiar with referencing and creating a bibliography (MLA or APA styles)

/Teaching method and Attention the course
This lecture course will be conducted face-to-face.
The course follows on from Writing Skills I and II.
The work for this course is all written and will be submitted online through manaba.
Feedback will be provided either face-to-face in class or through manaba, depending on the circumstances at the time.
事前・事後学修の内容
/Before After Study
Work quantities will vary throughout the semester. The required work before and after the classes will be as such:
Reading textbook sections indicated by the teacher, checking difficult vocabulary and completing any tasks indicated in the textbook or requested by the teacher. (1-2 hours)
Researching required information for composition of essays. (2-4 hours)
Writing essays. (2-4 hours)
Answering questions about other students' work in peer review (2 hours)
Reviewing and improving work. (2 hours)

1 Welcome back Conversation activities. Speaking activities to help reintroduce stuidents to the class. Reviewing information and language acquired in classroom. 30 minutes.
2 50 word stories Short writing activity. An activity for students to practice concise writing. Considering ideas for composition. Review of techniques and ideas studied. 30 minutes.
3 Referencing Using the internet and other sources. Reading about referencing and other writing components, Reading relevant pages in textbook. Review of techniques and ideas studied. 60 minutes.
4 Argument essays Format analysis. Reading and answering questions about argument essays. Reading relevant pages in textbook. Review of techniques and ideas studied. 60 minutes.
5 Developing argument essays Essay outlining. Writing outlines for argument essays. Researching and preparing outline of argument essay. 60-120 minutes.
6 Argument essay review First draft peer review. Reading and answering questions about other students' essays. Researching and preparing first df\raft of argument essay. 60-120 minutes.
7 Argument essay advanced review Second draft peer and teacher review. Responding to further questions about other students' essays. Preparation of second draft for peer review. Revision of first draft. 60-90 minutes.
8 Final draft submission Writing reviews. Submission of final draft. Composing reviews of written work. Proofreading final draft. Reviewing information acquired in class. 60 minutes.
9 Stories Group narrative compositions. A writing activity focussing on imaginative work. Considering ideas for composition. Review of techniques and ideas studied. 30 minutes.
10 Other forms of academic writing Outlining. Composing outlines for further types of essays. Researching and preparing outline of essay. 60-120 minutes.
11 Students’ choice review First draft peer review. Reading and answering questions about other students' essays. Researching and preparing first df\raft of essay. 60-120 minutes.
12 Students’ choice advanced review Second draft peer review. Responding to further questions about other students' essays Preparation of second draft for peer review. Revision of first draft. 60-90 minutes.
13 Final editing Teacher review. The teacher responds to students' work and gives advice. Proofreading final draft. Reviewing information acquired in class. 60 minutes.
14 Final draft submission Submission of final draft and review of course objectives. Proofreading final draft. Reviewing information acquired in class. 60 minutes.
