授業の目的・内容
/Course Objectives
The ability to write clear English and to support your ideas with information from different sources is an important skill in the workplace as well as at university. During this course we will cover a number of topics that are important now and in the  future, and students are encouraged to discuss these topics and come up with their own ideas. This writing course will build on the writing skills studied in Writing Skills I and II to:
1. Understand what a 'good' essay is and to be able to use different patterns of essay organization.
2. Plan, revise and edit their essays, and develop computer literacy skills.
3. Use a variety of sources and understand how to cite and reference them (APA style).
授業の形式・方法と履修上の注意
/Teaching method and Attention the course
This class is student-centered and students will work in pairs and and groups in class to complete the tasks in the textbook, answer questions and solve problems.. Students are encouraged to come up with their own ideas about the topics introduced in the textbook and discuss them with their classmates.  On the first day of the semester we will review the skills practiced in Writing Skills III. The semester we will cover Units 4-8 in the textbook. Students will be given four short essay assignments based on the textbook.
Each class will begin with a review of the previous week before moving on to the lesson. Students will write first drafts of four short essays, revise and edit them before submitting as a portfolio of completed work at the end of the semester. Writing essays is challenging and each student has different problems. I encourage you to discuss any problems you may have with me at the end of class or by email.
