授業の目的・内容 ／Course Objectives	秋学期は、The Adventures of Sherlock Holmesの中から、いくつかの短編を読みながら、19世紀末の英国社会、ヨーロッパ、米国との関係についての理解を深める。同時に、語彙力を増やし、英語的表現に親しんでいく。小説に登場する物事についての知識を増やし、教養を身につけていくことも狙いとする。
授業の形式・方法と履修上の注意 ／Teaching method and Attention the course	本講義は、原則として英語で行いますが講義内容を補足するため適宜日本語も使用します。教材・資料は全て英語です。アクティブ・ラーニングの手法を用いますので、活発な授業参加が必須です。リーディング、ライティング、ディスカッション、プレゼンテーションなど、こなさなければならない課題は多いですが、（世界で通用する）高度な学力・英語力を身に着けるための「通過点」として本講義をご利用いただければ幸いです。毎週約４時間の事前・事後学修が必要です。受講生が提出する全ての課題において、受講生間のピア・アセスメントまたは教員によるフィードバックが行われます。
