授業の目的・内容 ／Course Objectives	This one-semester course is compulsory for first-year students. Overall Objectives 1．To increase their vocabulary 2．To review grammar 3．To develop basic reading skills & strategies 4．To understand how various texts are organized This course focuses on improving students’ "vocabulary," "grammar" and "reading" skills, as stated in DP 2. Overall objectives are for them to acquire the basics of "written receptive skills," as stated in the CP.
授業の形式・方法と履修上の注意 ／Teaching method and Attention the course	Reading Strategies II (Honors) is an advanced level reading course designed to help students develop effective skills and practices for improving their reading comprehension and vocabulary. Course materials (readings, homework assignments, etc.) will be made available for download via the classroom management platform Manaba. All homework assignments will be reviewed and assessed in class, first by students—going over and making corrections to their responses with classmates, and finally by the instructor—eliciting responses from students and providing feedback. Classes will be held in person on the Dokkyo University campus.
事前・事後学修の内容 ／Before After Study	Students are expected to prepare for each week’s lesson by reading the assigned story or essay and completing the corresponding homework assignment (1 hour). Following each lesson, students should make corrections to their homework and review the reading and their associated notes (30 minutes).

評価方法 ／Evaluation	Evaluations will be based on level of participation in activities and discussions (15%) and achievement on homework assignments (55%) and a final essay exam (30%).
