授業の目的・内容 ／Course Objectives	1. To help students understand the typical structure of a ‘good’ essay 2. To help students understand (genre-specific) patterns of essay organization 3. To help students plan essays 4. To help students use a variety of references and utilize Internet sources 5. To help students revise and edit their essays 6. To help students develop computer literacy skills 7. To help students become more familiar with referencing and creating a bibliography (MLA or APA styles)
授業の形式・方法と履修上の注意 ／Teaching method and Attention the course	Classes will be conducted face-to-face unless the university instructs us to go online. Make-up assignments will be posted after the class for students with a valid excuse for absence to keep up with the class. Each class will begin with a review of the previous class before moving on to the content of the class. We will cover the last four chapters of the book and students will submit essay outlines, first drafts of essay assignments from the textbook and a final paper. All work should be revised and submitted in a portfolio of correctly formatted and referenced final drafts at the end of the semester.
事前・事後学修の内容 ／Before After Study	Spend an hour after class to review the class and complete textbook assignments for the next class. You will prepare an outline for each of the essay assignments, write a first draft, revise it according to feedback and submit it as part of a portfolio of final drafts.
