授業の目的・内容
/Course Objectives
This course aims to:
(1) build students’ confidence in English writing skills:
from sentence to paragraph
(2) improve students’ skills in academic writing strategies:
organized and logical
(3) build students’ confidence in editing their work

This course focuses on improving students’ "vocabulary," "grammar" and "writing" skills, as stated in DP 2. Overall objectives are for students to acquire the basics of "written productive skills," as stated in the CP.

授業の形式・方法と履修上の注意
/Teaching method and Attention the course
Throughout the course students will interact with textbook, web-based, and downloadable activities that will require independent, small-group and instructor interaction.

Students will engage with all steps within the writing process, from brainstorming and outlining to drafting and editing.

This class will be delivered face to face on the university campus, with supplemental elements available online.

Students will be required to bring their textbook, phone, computer, paper and a pen.

Feedback will be given to students via written feedback, completed rubrics and score-sheets all of which are delivered via manaba.
事前・事後学修の内容
/Before After Study
Independent online learning, pre and post class assignments will require 2-3 hours of commitment weekly.

Some activities will be conducted within the 100-minute class period.

Students will be required to preview classroom readings weekly (30 minutes).

Students will be required to complete outside of the classroom writing assignments weekly (1-2 hours).

Students will be required to complete homework after the completion of each class (1 hour).

評価方法
/Evaluation
Error Log - 20% - students will complete 4, 5% each
Error logs require a student to use teacher provided feedback to self-correct the mechanical errors within their writing

Draft 1s - 40% - students will complete 8, 5% each
Draft 1s require a student to complete and submit a piece of writing that reflects the elements of content and structure acquired in class. Students will receive direct facilitative feedback from the instructor for each Draft 1

Draft 2s - 20% - students will complete 4, 5% each
Draft 2s require a student to rewrite a piece of writing that demonstrates improvement based on Draft 1 feedback. Students will receive indirect corrective feedback from the instructor for each Draft 2.

Draft 3s - 20% - students will complete 2, 10% each
Draft 3s require a student to rewrite a piece of writing that demonstrates improvement based on Draft 2 and error log feedback. Students will received a complete rubric from the instructor for each Draft 3.

The course focuses on continuous engagement with the writing process, to be successful, a student must attend to a wide variety of smaller tasks both inside and outside of the classroom.
