授業の目的・内容 ／Course Objectives	本授業では、主に〈食文化〉や〈人びとの暮らし〉に関する小説、詩、学術的文献を読みながら、テキストを通して見えてくる日常生活や英語圏社会の様相について、さまざまな視点から考察していく。前半では、世界の食文化について考察した文献を読みながら、食の背景にある歴史、社会、文化について検討する。後半では、短編小説を深く味わっていく。その中に登場するいくつもの事がらについての補足的なリサーチを行いながら、一般教養を高めることも目的とする。総合的に、文献や小説のレトリックと意味世界の関わりに注目し、テキストを深く味わうと同時に、テキストの中のシンボルを読み解きながら、英語圏を中心とする世界中の社会や文化についても理解することを目指す。
授業の形式・方法と履修上の注意 ／Teaching method and Attention the course	本講義は、原則として英語で行いますが講義内容を補足するため適宜日本語も使用します。教材・資料は原則、英語です。アクティブ・ラーニングの手法を用いますので、活発な授業参加が必須です。リーディング、ライティング、ディスカッション、プレゼンテーションなど、こなさなければならない課題は多いですが、（世界で通用する）高度な学力・英語力を身に着けるための「通過点」として本講義をご利用いただければ幸いです。毎週約４時間の事前・事後学修が必要です。受講生が提出する全ての課題において、受講生間のピア・アセスメントまたは教員によるフィードバックが行われます。
