授業の目的・内容
/Course Objectives
This one-term required class allows second-year students the opportunity to take the initiative and be directly involved in their own learning, as well as the learning of their classmates, by preparing their own presentation and leading subsequent class discussion based on the chosen topic.
Overall Objectives
1. To foster student responsibility by involving students more directly in the learning process
2. To teach students how to prepare presentations
3. To give all students the opportunity to give a presentation and lead class discussion
This course focuses on improving students’ "speaking" skills, as stated in DP 2. Overall objectives are for them to acquire the basics of "oral productive skills," as stated in the CP.
授業の形式・方法と履修上の注意
/Teaching method and Attention the course
The class is primarily designed to be face-to-face. All handouts will be posted on Porta II website one week in advance of the lecture.
However, students will be able to attend live via zoom (link posted on Porta II) and I will also post a recording of each lecture on the Porta II website for those students who could not attend live or in person. Please note, however,  I expect all students to attend in person for presentation day.
Please attend the first class in person if possible.
Students will be evaluated based on their performance on their presentations. Students will be given detailed written and oral feedback on their performance after each presentation. There are three presentations per semester.
事前・事後学修の内容
/Before After Study
Before class, students are required to read all handouts and articles assigned (Posted on Porta II). Students are expected to look up all unknown words and fully understand the meaning of the text. (About 1 - 2 hours per class). After class, students are required to do all homework tasks set (write introductions, do research, have group meetings, etc.). Students are encouraged to meet outside of class with group members and practice for group presentations. (About 1-2 hours per class).
