授業の目的・内容
/Course Objectives
This one-term required class teaches second-year students how to read more effectively and then presents them with the opportunity to share their ideas and opinions successfully in group and class discussions while working with topical subjects.
Overall Objectives
1. To teach students the skills involved in effective group discussion
2. To improve reading comprehension skills using topical reading material
3. To develop verbal reasoning skills together with the ability and opportunity to communicate their thoughts related to the topics and readings provided
This course focuses on improving students’ "reading," "listening" and "speaking" skills and their "competence to think critically in English as well as hold discussions in English, without using Japanese," as stated in DP 2. Overall objectives are for students to acquire the basics of "written receptive skills" and "oral receptive skills and productive skills," as stated in the CP.
授業の形式・方法と履修上の注意
/Teaching method and Attention the course
One focus reading will be studied each week. The first part of each class will be used for introduction, explanation and exploration. This will be followed by relevant application of skills to tasks. Note that the teaching method, material covered, and evaluation may change due to the demands of the ongoing health situation. Updated and more detailed information will be provided in the first class.

Feedback will be provided by a score and comments for each written and/or presentation assignment given during the course.

Students should prepare before each lesson by completing assigned homework / tasks (30-60 minutes). Students should review lesson notes after each lesson and ensure all classwork is complete (30-60 minutes).
