授業の目的・内容 ／Course Objectives	This one-semester course is compulsory for first-year students. Overall Objectives: 1．To increase their vocabulary 2．To review grammar 3．To develop basic reading skills & strategies 4．To understand how various texts are organized This course focuses on improving students’ "vocabulary," "grammar," "reading" skills and their "competence to think critically in English as well as hold discussions in English, without using Japanese" as stated in DP 2. Overall objectives are for students to acquire the basics of "written receptive skills" stated in the CP.
授業の形式・方法と履修上の注意 ／Teaching method and Attention the course	この授業は基本的に対面授業とする。授業の録画は行わない。コロナの感染状況によっては、全面的にオンライン授業へと切り替える可能性もある。対面での授業への参加が難しい場合には、前日までに必ず連絡すること。 可能な限りインタラクティブな授業を目指すため、ペア・ワークやグループ・ワークを多く用いる。1つのUNITを2～3週をかけて進める予定である。その時々の世界のニュースも授業で扱う予定である。
事前・事後学修の内容 ／Before After Study	教科書の指定箇所を事前によく読み、わからない単語は事前に調べて授業に臨むこと。授業後は、授業で扱った範囲をよく復習して、疑問点が残らないようにすること。事後事前学習に2時間程を費やすことが望ましい。

評価方法 ／Evaluation	毎回の単語テスト10％、manabaのﾚﾎﾟｰﾄ機能を用いての課題提出10％、授業への貢献度10％学期末試験60％の総合評価とする。欠席はいかなる理由であれど3回までとする。4回以上の欠席は評価の対象としないので、十分に気を付けること。
