授業の目的・内容 ／Course Objectives	This course sets out to help students develop communicative competence through active discussion, and to help students develop their understanding of current affairs. We will look at what constitutes a discussion, and develop the skills necessary to maintain an active discussion. Students will be called upon to do research and prepare discussion topics based on what they read in the news outside of class. They are also required to maintain a course journal. This course has a strict English only policy. It is designed for students with a CEFR C1 or Eiken II level of proficiency. An online group discussion board will be maintained for this course. (Voicethread.com) Upon completion of this course, students will able to discuss various topics in English with higher level of confidence.
授業の形式・方法と履修上の注意 ／Teaching method and Attention the course	Developing discussion skills and building awareness of domestic and international affairs. Advancing English fluency and vocabulary through reading and discussion activities. To ensure that students gain a higher level of fluency in communicative English while learning about the issues that face them in a globalized and developing world.
事前・事後学修の内容 ／Before After Study	Students need to prepare for class discussions by researching the topic and by gaining a full understanding of it in advance of class. They will also need to formulate their opinions and shape them for presentation.

評価方法 ／Evaluation	Students are evaluated according to (1) their participating in group discussions (50%), (2) participation on Voice Thread (25%), and (3) journal entries (25%).

到達目標 ／Learning Goal	討論の技能向上と国内外の問題についての理解を深める。英語文献を読み討論活動を行うことで、英語の流ちょうさと語彙力を高める。学生が、直面するグローバル化し発展を続ける世界の問題を学ぶことにより、より高度な流ちょうさをもって英語コミュニケーションができることを目指す。
