授業の目的・内容 ／Course Objectives	This course designed is for students who have a more advanced proficiency in communicative English (e.g., CEFR C1 or Eiken II). It is designed to reinforce and advance the skills acquired in Debate I. Students will conduct research on topics that are challenging and require deeper consideration; moreover, students will engage in various reading & writing tasks to further their understanding of their chosen topics. Topics will focus on current issues from events taking place around the world. Upon completion of this course, students should (1) have the confidence to debate other EFL students from around the world, (2) have a greater understanding of critical thinking, (3) have better understanding of the world issues and (4) how they affect Japan and to have debate teaching skills.
授業の形式・方法と履修上の注意 ／Teaching method and Attention the course	To develop advanced critical thinking skills for active debate in English. To look deeper into the more troubling or perplexing issues that face the world, and to critically analyze them in terms positives and negatives utilizing the four skill areas: reading, writing, speaking & listening. Based on research, analysis and reflection, students will formalize argumentation for debates, and finally to debate with a higher level of precision.  This course WILL USE the Manaba Learning Managing System (LMS) to support class activities.     Students are required to view Manaba on a regular basis.  Students will find important course information on Manaba.  READING MATERIAL WILL BE PROVIDED.  Please Note Carefully:  There is a chance this course will be online in part or in full.  We will use ZOOM if it has an online component.
事前・事後学修の内容 ／Before After Study	Students need to prepare for class debates by researching the topic and by gaining a full understanding of it in advance of class. They will also need to formulate their opinions and shape them for debates. Additionally, students will be asked to defend their positions.

評価方法 ／Evaluation	Students are evaluated according to (1) their participating in group debates (50%), (2) completion of classroom tasks (25%), and (3) skill in managing class debate (25%).

到達目標 ／Learning Goal	上級者のためのクリティカル・シンキング（批判的思考方法）技能を向上させ、英語によるディベートを活性化させる。「読むこと」「書くこと」「話すこと（やり取り・発表）」「聞くこと」すべての能力を活用しながら、世界が直面するより困難で紛糾する問題を深く見ていき、肯定／否定の両面から批判的に分析していく。英語のコミュニケーション能力と流ちょうさ、それにクリティカル・シンキングの技能向上を図る。調査、分析、熟慮にもとづきディベートのための論証を明確化して、最終的により高度な厳密さを伴うディベートをしていく。
