授業の目的・内容 ／Course Objectives	This one-term, twice-a-week required class helps first-year students to learn how to improve their English language communication skills by introducing the organizational skills necessary to become a more competent speaker and writer. Overall Objectives 1. To help students to develop a basic knowledge of the skills required for organizing a speech and developing speech writing skills 2. To give students maximum opportunities to develop their speech delivery and speech writing skills 3. To build student confidence in speech communication in small and larger group contexts

事前・事後学修の内容 ／Before After Study	Please do homework assignments as soon as possible (the same day; or the next day). Waiting until the last minute to do assignments/homework (‘ichiyazuke’) is NOT a good way to prepare for classes.

評価方法 ／Evaluation	The instructor will use the ongoing assessment technique. You will be assessed often, on: how well you participate in class; how well you speak and elaborate (explain) in English, the ways in which you reason (think); how well you use the information taught to you; how well you work together with other class members; and so on. Your grade will be tentatively determined by: ongoing class assessments (approximately 35%); class participation (20%); and homework/test(s)/presentations (45%).
