授業の目的・内容 ／Course Objectives	The goal in the Writing Skills III course is to develop students’ writing and critical thinking abilities in English, progressing from production of shorter to longer academic texts, and from writing on familiar topics to writing about more complex and academic ones. Overall Objectives 1. To provide an overview of what constitutes a ‘good’ essay 2. To help students understand various patterns of essay organization 3. To help students plan essays 4. To help students revise and edit their essays 5. To help students use a variety of sources 6. To help students develop computer literacy skills 7. To introduce the basics of referencing and creating a bibliography (MLA or APA styles)
授業の形式・方法と履修上の注意 ／Teaching method and Attention the course	授業では主に日本語で解説を行いますが、質疑応答やペアワーク、グループワーク等のアウトプットは英語で行います。また、首尾一貫したエッセイを書くためには英文読解力も必須です。テキストにあるリーディング素材の分析も時間をかけて行います。アウトプットのみに気を取られないように注意して学修してください。
事前・事後学修の内容 ／Before After Study	事前学修として、授業範囲をPorTallで確認し、教科書の予習とライティング課題の準備をする。事後学修として、授業で理解に不安のある箇所を確認し、ライティングの課題で指摘された箇所があれば読み直し修正する。（各1時間） 予習してあることを前提として授業をすすめます。各自取り組んでから授業に臨んでください。授業の予習（1時間）、復習（1時間）。

1	Introduction Unit 1-1,2	授業の進め方や評価方法の確認。今学期の目標をライティングする。 From Paragraph to Short Essay (前半)	テキストを購入しUnit 1の1, 2を読んでおく。授業で理解があいまいだった点を復習する。
2	Unit 1-3,4	From Paragraph to Short Essay (後半)	PorTaの掲示を確認する。Unit 1-3, 4を読み、練習問題を解いておく。授業後に見直し、理解を深めておく。
3	Unit 2 Descriptive Essays (1)	Stimulating Ideas	PorTaの掲示を確認する。テキストを読みbrainstorming, outliningの方法を確認しておく。Unit 2課題のoutlineを完成させる。
4	Unit 2 Descriptive Essays (2)	Brainstorming and Outlining	PorTaの掲示を確認する。Brainstormingしたアイディアをもとにoutlineを作成してくる。授業で作成したoutlineを見直し完成させる。
5	Unit 2 Descriptive Essays (3)	Developing Your Ideas	PorTaの掲示を確認する。Outlineをもとに1st draftを作成してくる。授業後1st draftをreviseしておく。
6	Unit 2 Descriptive Essays (4)	Editing Your Writing	PorTaの掲示を確認する。1st draftを書いてくる。授業後、reviseしておく。
7	Unit 2 Descriptive Essays (5)	Putting It All Together	PorTaの掲示を確認する。Final draftを読み直しreviseする。授業後final draftを提出する。
8	Unit 4 Comparison-Contrast Essays (1)	Stimulating Ideas	PorTaの掲示を確認する。Narrative essayのアイデアを用意しておく。授業後brainstormingしアイディアを出して。授業後、アイディアを整理しておく。
9	Unit 4 Comparison-Contrast Essays (2)	Brainstorming and Outlining	PorTaの掲示を確認する。Unit 3のbrainstorming, outliningの方法を確認しておく。授業後、アイデアをまとめてoutlineを作成しておく。
10	Unit 4 Comparison-Contrast Essays ((3)	Developing Your Ideas	PorTaの掲示を確認する。Outlineをもとに1st draftを作成してくる。授業後1st draftをreviseしておく。
11	Unit 4 Comparison-Contrast Essays (4)	Editing Your Writing	PorTaの掲示を確認する。Final draftを書いてくる。授業後、reviseしておく。
12	Unit 4 Comparison-Contrast Essays (5)	Putting It All Together	PorTaの掲示を確認する。Reviseしたfinal draftを印刷してくる。授業後、PorTaで提出する。

14	Summary of the course	Timed-writing	PorTaIIの掲示を確認し、これまでの授業範囲を復習する。授業後、教科書とライティング課題を見直す。
