授業の目的・内容 ／Course Objectives	Films of Steven Spielberg. This course will focus on the films of Steven Spielberg, examining the life and legacy of one of the most successful directors in American cinema history. Spielberg’s works are closely linked with the rise of the Hollywood “blockbuster era”. They span genres and generations and provide an engaging lens into broader sociocultural and economic trends. Students will practice analyzing the themes, aesthetics, innovations and historic relevance of Spielberg’s films through screenings, in-class activities and small group discussions. Key assignments include short film reviews and a movie poster presentation.
授業の形式・方法と履修上の注意 ／Teaching method and Attention the course	Each week we will study examples of Spielberg cinema. The first part of each class will include watching, reading about, and analyzing examples of Spielberg film techniques. Then we will review any questions and assignments. Finally, students will be given in-class exercises to complete. Note that the teaching method, text material covered, and assessment style may change due to the demands of the ongoing health situation. Updated and more detailed information will be provided in the first class.
事前・事後学修の内容 ／Before After Study	Students prepare readings and vocabulary before class and write reviews and summaries of the films shown in class. Students write short essays on two films of their choice and give a final presentation.

7	Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark	We begin our third screening, Spielberg adapts 1930s-40s serials into a feature film adventure.	Homework Reading: "The Benefits of Escapism"

10	E.T. the Extra Terrestrial	We begin our fourth screening, the sci-fi blockbuster E.T.
11	Spielberg's 'Mature' Turn?	We look at whether Spielberg's historic films represent his most mature works.
12	Jurassic Park	We being our fifth screening, the special effects hit Jurassic Park.	Submit second review essay. Vocabulary Quiz.
13	Spielberg's Legacy	We look at Spielberg's influence, and his relationship with John Williams.
