授業の目的・内容 ／Course Objectives	This one-semester course is compulsory for second-year students. Overall Objectives 1. To increase academic vocabulary and to further the development of vocabulary/vocabulary building skills in general 2. To automatize more accurate grammatical knowledge 3. To develop comprehension skills for reading materials across different genres and topics. 4. To develop effective reading skills & deciphering academic texts (intensive reading, extensive reading, using visual/lexical & grammatical cues in academic texts). 5. To continue to develop reading strategies to read authentic texts/outside readers. 6. To recognize how authors use in-text citations, direct quotations and referencing.
授業の形式・方法と履修上の注意 ／Teaching method and Attention the course	The materials for the course, as well as all aspects of the course itself will be taught in English. This course will require a significant amount of reading, as well as some writing through journal entries, book reports, and reading discussion. Therefore, this class will have a balanced amount of active activities (such as speaking and writing) and passive activities (such as reading, listening, and notetaking).
事前・事後学修の内容 ／Before After Study	Students are expected to prepare for each class by reviewing lecture and class discussion notes. There will also be the occasional quizzes to study for, some outside reading, researching, and project preparation activities.
