授業の目的・内容 ／Course Objectives	This one-semester course is compulsory for first-year students. Overall Objectives 1. To increase their vocabulary and strategies for grasping meaning of vocabulary in texts 2. To review grammar and cohesive devises 3. To develop basic reading skills and strategies (pre-reading, during reading and after reading strategies) 4. To develop comprehension strategies to understand reading materials without translating them into Japanese 5. To clarify the structure of a paragraph or essay (dependent on the level of the students)
授業の形式・方法と履修上の注意 ／Teaching method and Attention the course	授業は対面で行う予定であるが、感染状況によって変更になる場合もある。感染対策をしたうえで、可能なかぎりのグループワークも取り入れるので、積極的な授業貢献を期待する。授業の一部は英語で行う。
事前・事後学修の内容 ／Before After Study	教材は事前に授業で配布するか、オンラインで配布するので、必ず事前学習を行うこと。授業内に理解できなかったことは、事後学習で解決すること。課題提出には場合によってmanabaを利用することもある。利用法については授業内で解説する。
