授業の目的・内容
/Course Objectives
This one-semester course is compulsory for first-year students.
Overall Objectives
1. To increase their vocabulary and strategies for grasping meaning of vocabulary in texts
2. To review grammar and cohesive devises
3. To develop basic reading skills and strategies (pre-reading, during reading and after reading strategies)
4. To develop comprehension strategies to understand reading materials without translating them into Japanese
5. To clarify the structure of a paragraph or essay (dependent on the level of the students)
授業の形式・方法と履修上の注意
/Teaching method and Attention the course
Students practice reading in English while learning about the culture of East Asia. The course also focuses on improving their reading skills and communication skills, in addition to expanding students’ vocabulary and knowledge. Students will be given opportunities to actively engage with the new words and expressions using mini projects and to further develop their readings skills by conducting their own research online.

This is a face to face course.
事前・事後学修の内容
/Before After Study
Students will study new vocabulary on Quizlet every week. Students will also practice their reading skills at home using extra readings from the textbook. Students will pursue their own research to prepare for their mini projects in class.
