授業の目的・内容 ／Course Objectives	This one-semester course is compulsory for first-year students. Overall Objectives 1. To increase their vocabulary and strategies for grasping meaning of vocabulary in texts 2. To review grammar and cohesive devises 3. To develop basic reading skills and strategies (pre-reading, during reading and after reading strategies) 4. To develop comprehension strategies to understand reading materials without translating them into Japanese 5. To clarify the structure of a paragraph or essay (dependent on the level of the students)
授業の形式・方法と履修上の注意 ／Teaching method and Attention the course	毎回の授業では、テキストを使用した基本的なリーディング・スキルの習得、課題パッセージの読解、ディスカッションが中心となる。 ※本授業は、対面形式で行う。
事前・事後学修の内容 ／Before After Study	assignments　(毎週30分程度が宿題に必要になると思われる）
