授業の目的・内容
/Course Objectives
This course introduces students who have an intermediate level of proficiency in English to the dynamics of
debate. Students can expect to learn how to formulate their ideas on issues related to values and opinions,
express their ideas within the format of a debate, and refute the argumentation of others.  This course is essential
for those planning to become English instructors at the high/jr level.   Please note the following:
1)  This course will mainly be  conducted via Zoom
2)  You will need to be able to access Zoom, and to understand how to use Zoom
3)  I will have mini lectures, and discussions, and ask that student participate actively in the discussions.
     We will have active debates during our class time.  
4)  Grades are based on quizzes, debate performance, & improvement.

/Teaching method and Attention the course
To develop advanced critical thinking skills for active debate in English. To look deeper into the more troubling or perplexing issues that face the world, and to critically analyze them in terms positives and negatives utilizing the four skill areas: reading, writing, speaking & listening. Based on research, analysis and reflection, students will formalize argumentation for debates, and finally to debate with a higher level of precision.
事前・事後学修の内容
/Before After Study
Students need to prepare for class debates by researching the topic and by gaining a full understanding
of it in advance of class.  They will also need to formulate their opinions and shape them for our debates.
Additionally, students will be asked to defend their positions.

Students are evaluated according to (1) their participating in group debates (50%), (2) completion of classroom tasks (25%), and (3) skill in managing class debate (25%).

上級者のためのクリティカル・シンキング(批判的思考方法)技能を向上させ、英語によるディベートを活性化させる。「読むこと」「書くこと」「話すこと(やり取り・発表)」「聞くこと」すべての能力を活用しながら、世界が直面するより困難で紛糾する問題を深く見ていき、肯定/否定の両面から批判的に分析していく。英語のコミュニケーション能力と流ちょうさ、それにクリティカル・シンキングの技能向上を図る。調査、分析、熟慮にもとづきディベートのための論証を明確化して、最終的により高度な厳密さを伴うディベートをしていく。
