授業の目的・内容
/Course Objectives
The purposes of the course are to show you how to:
a) think in and communicate more effectively in modern English, using ""EQ"" (Emotional Intelligence);
b) learn about and actively discuss World Issues, from an International point of view;
c) enjoy dynamic, interesting conversations in smooth, Modern English;
d) try to understand International humor; and (hopefully) try to use such humor effectively; and
e) use grammar-checking software to check/revise your own grammar issues.

You should 'STUDY-AT-HOME'--NOT use this time to do EXTRA ''arbeito'' work.Your 'job', now, is to study--NOT more ''part-time arbeito''.*FOCUS* 100% on your studies, 9AM to 5PM, Monday to Friday (and sometimes weekends).To FOCUS, you'll need to study with all DISTRACTIONS OFF(TV/SNS/LINE/Radio/Facebook/manga/YouTube).

/Evaluation
The instructor will use the ongoing assessment technique. You will be assessed every class, during ONLINE 'chat', on: how well you participate; how well you speak and elaborate (explain) in English; the ways in which you reason (think); how well you use the info taught to you; how well you interact with class members; etc.

Your grade will tentatively be determined by: ongoing class assessments (approx. 35%); class participation (15%); and homework/test(s)(35%); & Attendance (15%).

2 Polite questioning & polite answering, in English. Hallowe'en: history & customs. (Perhaps including Hadrian's Wall/Guy Fawkes.) Please participate ACTIVELY in Online classes. If you're not sure about an answer, please GUESS.
3 Practice: polite questions & answers, in English. Practice with polite questioning & polite answering, in modern English. If you're not sure about an answer,speak up & GUESS, instead of reflexively answering "I don't know"
4 Hallowe'en: history & customs. Hallowe'en: history & customs. (Perhaps including Hadrian's Wall/Guy Fawkes.) Silence/ Not answering will be regarded as a 0% score, during Online classes.
5 Researching Christmas in various countries.
Assignment of Christmas customs in various countries (for a class presentation). You should STUDY-AT-HOME(NOT use this time to do EXTRA "arbeito" work).Your 'job', now, is to STUDY.
6 Preparation/Practice for presentations. Preparation/Practice for presentations./ TED talk, with questions & discussion. *FOCUS* 100% on your studies, 9AM to 5PM, Monday to Friday (and sometimes weekends).
7 Thanksgiving: history;& usual Thanksgiving customs Thanksgiving: history; and usual Thanksgiving customs, in North America. To FOCUS:study with all DISTRACTIONS OFF (TV/SNS/LINE/Radio/Facebook/YouTube/manga/Smartphone/etc.).
8 Thanksgiving song-listening exercise. Thanksgiving song-listening exercise, with cultural awareness questions. Do homework assignments AS SOON AS POSSIBLE (the same day; or the next day).
