授業の目的・内容
/Course Objectives
The purpose of this course is to give students an understanding of how to write more complex compositions. Students will move from writing one-paragraph compositions to complete essays through a gradual step-by-step process. As before, emphasis will be placed on composition, organization, and content of writing, however, some grammar and vocabulary building will also be covered.

Overall Objectives
1. To teach the various patterns of short essay organization.
2. To make the students more aware of the editing process through peer-review.
3. To teach the skills necessary for students to revise their work effectively.
4. To increase student computer literacy skills.
授業の形式・方法と履修上の注意
/Teaching method and Attention the course
We will use zoom meetings for classes and meet at the regularly scheduled class time. Materials to be used in class and zoom meetings will be posted on Porta II. Submissions of any assignments will be done via email and/or Manaba.

/Before After Study
Before class, students are required to read all handouts and articles assigned. After class, students are required to do all homework tasks set (write introductions, do research, have group meetings, etc.)

2 Topic & Introduction Sentence Students will learn the difference between a topic and introduction sentence. Read Handouts / Choose a topic
3 Using Two Paragraphs /Past Perfect We will discuss how to use two paragraphs and when to start a new paragraph. Read Handouts / Make an Outline
4 Identifying Omissions / Identifying Digressions We will focus on examining our own writing and evaluating if anything is missing or needs adding. Read Handouts / Complete Draft
5 Revising / Writing Workshop Students will share their paragraphs with their peers and teacher for feedback and advice. Read Handouts / Complete final Draft
6 Argument Essay / Generating Ideas via Discussion We will discuss the requirements for the next essay and use class discussion to generate ideas. Read Handouts / Choose a topic
7 Making Arguments – Reasons and Supporting Detail We will discuss how to present an argument in an organized and convincing manner. Read Handouts / Make an Outline
8 Organization an Argument / Editing for Grammar Students will learn how the organization of the entire essay can help make their arguments effective Read Handouts / Complete Draft
9 Revising / Writing Workshop Students will share their paragraphs with their peers and teacher for feedback and advice. Read Handouts / Complete final Draft
10 Compare and Contrast Essay / Choose a topic We will discuss the requirements for the next assignment. Read Handouts / Choose a topic
11 Introductory Paragraph / Thesis Statements We will discuss how to write an introductory paragraph to grab the readers attention. Read Handouts / Make an Outline
12 Concluding Paragraph / Comparatives Students will learn how to write a concluding paragraph for a three-paragraph essay. Read Handouts / Complete Draft
13 Revising / Writing Workshop Students will share their paragraphs with their peers and teacher for feedback and advice. Read Handouts / Complete final Draft
14 Review and Wrap-up Students will review the course through games and group discussions. N/A
