授業の目的・内容 ／Course Objectives	This course will focus on continuing to develop the writing skills studied in the spring semester by examining various purposes of writing.  Students will write simple paragraphs and develop their writing in to short essays during the course. Students will also learn how to write a short research paper, complete with documentation and reference lists. Common mistakes and how to avoid them will be also introduced to the students.  Self-help techniques as well as peer checking and reviewing will also be incorporated in this course.
授業の形式・方法と履修上の注意 ／Teaching method and Attention the course	This course will be active and learner-centered. Students will be expected to participate in group discussions and work in groups and pairs to complete some of the tasks.  Peer review and editing will be incorporated throughout the term.   Students will also be expected to keep an English journal throughout the entire course.
事前・事後学修の内容 ／Before After Study	Students will be expected to do the grammar review and homework for each class as well as keep an English journal throughout the course.

評価方法 ／Evaluation	Students will be assessed on class participation (20%), journal writing (20%), writing assignments (20%), short research paper (20%)  and  end-term assessment (20%).

1	Course Introduction, Reporting	Students will interview partners and write about summer holidays.	Students will write 4 pages in their journal for the next class.
2	Processes, Time	Students will review adverbs and then write a short essay about a process.	Students will write 4 pages in their journal for the next class.
3	Descriptions, Space	Students will review prepositions of placement and write description paragraphs about a place.	Students will write 4 pages in their journal for the next class.
4	Explanation paragraphs	Students will explain something about Japan.	Students will write 4 pages in their journal for the next class.
5	Short answers	Students will practice techniques for taking examinations in English.	Students will write 4 pages in their journal for the next class.
6	Essay questions	Students will practice techniques for answering essay questions in English.	Students will write 4 pages in their journal for the next class.
7	Problems and Solutions	Students will practice learning how to give advice or solutions to problems.	Students will complete their journal writing assignment
8	Resumes and Cover Letters	Students will learn how to make a resume and cover letter in English.	Students will practice typing to complete their resume and cover letter. Journals will be submitted.
9	Research Paper: Resources and Citations	Students will learn how to make citations and document research papers in English.	Students will look up various kinds of resources for a research paper.
10	Research Paper: Quoting and summarizing	Students will learn the difference between summarizing and quoting from references.	Students will work on their research paper.
11	Research Paper:  Outlines and Introductions	Students will write an outline for their research paper and complete an introduction.	Students will continue to work on their research paper.
12	Research Paper: Body and Conclusion	The body of a research paper as well as the conclusion will be examined in class.	Students will continue to work on their research paper.
13	SNS writing	Students will assume various roles and write various forms of SNS and text messages.	Students will complete their research paper for submission in the last class.
14	Final Assessment:  Summary and Opinion writing	Students will read an article, summarize it and then write their opinion about the topic.	Students should review the various skills acquired in the course.
