授業の目的・内容 ／Course Objectives	This one-term, twice-a-week required class for first-year students develops a range of English language skills (with an emphasis on oral communication) by applying practical communication strategies to help build on those linguistic skills learned by students in high school. Overall Objectives 1. To give students maximum opportunities to communicate 2. To build student confidence in interpersonal communication 3. To begin to develop the basic study skills needed to successfully carry out their four years of English study at this institution
授業の形式・方法と履修上の注意 ／Teaching method and Attention the course	This course is taught in English. Classes will be conducted using the textbook listed below. Students are required to purchase the textbook before the first class from stores such as the university bookstore DUO. This semester, Porta II and University Web-Mail System will be used as the essential tools of communication. In addition, classes will be conducted using Zoom. Students are expected to prepare an appropriate Internet environment to use these tools constantly.
事前・事後学修の内容 ／Before After Study	In terms of the use of Zoom, further details will be provided by the instructor before the first class through Porta II. Students are expected to prepare for each class by reviewing lecture and class discussion notes. Each week, new instructions will be given by the instructor. Students are expected to follow the instructions carefully, and engage in relevant activities and exercises. Further details will be provided by the instructor in the first class.

評価方法 ／Evaluation	Evaluations will be made according to participation (10%), short assignments (10%), midterm assignment (40%), and final assignment (40%). Details will be announced by the instructor in the first class.
