授業の目的・内容
/Course Objectives
The purposes of the course are to show you how to:
a) think in and communicate more effectively in modern English, using ""EQ"" (Emotional Intelligence);
b) learn about and actively discuss World Issues, from an International point of view;
c) enjoy dynamic, interesting conversations in smooth, Modern English;
d) try to understand International humor; and (hopefully) try to use such humor effectively; and
e) use grammar-checking software to check/revise your own grammar issues.

BECAUSE OF COVID-19, our class will be done Online,via e-mail;Online audio/video ''chat''; & assignments sent/received via Classroom portal.

事前・事後学修の内容

Do homework assignments as soon as possible (the same day,or the next day).Waiting until the last minute to do assignments/homework (‘ichiyazuke’) is NOT a good way to study/learn.
*You should 'STUDY-AT-HOME'--NOT use this time to do EXTRA ''arbeito'' work.Your 'job', now, is to study--NOT more ''part-time arbeito''.*FOCUS* 100% on your studies, 9AM to 5PM, Monday to Friday (& sometimes weekends).To FOCUS, you'll need to study with all DISTRACTIONS OFF(TV/SNS/LINE/Radio/Facebook/manga/YouTube).

評価方法
/Evaluation
The instructor will use the ongoing assessment technique. You will be assessed every class, during ONLINE 'chat', on: how well you participate; how well you speak and elaborate (explain) in English; the ways in which you reason (think); how well you use the info taught to you; how well you interact with class members; etc.

Your grade will tentatively be determined by: ongoing class assessments (approx. 35%); class participation (15%); and homework/test(s)(35%); & Attendance (15%).

2 "Used to": four different usages of 'used to'. "Used to": four different usages of 'used to'; with pair practice. Please participate ACTIVELY in Online classes. If you're not sure about an answer, please GUESS.
3 English Practice with Telephone Invitations. How to make telephone calls/telephone invitations, in modern English, with 'EQ'. If you're not sure about an answer,speak up & GUESS, instead of reflexively answering "I don't know"
4 Assigning Christmas(and/or another topic) research Hallowe'en, part 2.
+Assigning research about Christmas in another country (or other Presentation).
Silence/ Not answering will be regarded as a 0% score, during Online classes.
5 Hallowe'en: customs/practices in North America. Hallowe'en: history/customs/practices, in North America (& in some other countries). You should STUDY-AT-HOME(NOT use this time to do EXTRA "arbeito" work).Your 'job', now, is to STUDY.
6 Preparation & practice time, for presentations. Preparation & practice time for presentations./ TED Talk (or News video),with questions & discussion *FOCUS* 100% on your studies, 9AM to 5PM, Monday to Friday (and sometimes weekends)
7 Restaurant ordering, in English, at restaurants. Pair practice of restaurant ordering, in English./ Class presentations. To FOCUS:study with all DISTRACTIONS OFF (TV/SNS/LINE/Radio/Facebook/YouTube/manga/Smartphone/etc.).
8 Thanksgiving: history & customs. Thanksgiving: history & usual customs, in North America. Thanksgiving video/listening exercise. Do homework assignments AS SOON AS POSSIBLE (the same day; or the next day).
