授業の目的・内容 ／Course Objectives	This one-semester course is compulsory for first-year students. Overall Objectives 1. To increase their vocabulary and strategies for grasping meaning of vocabulary in texts 2. To review grammar and cohesive devises 3. To develop basic reading skills and strategies (pre-reading, during reading and after　reading strategies) 4. To develop comprehension strategies to understand reading materials without　translating them into Japanese 5. To clarify the structure of a paragraph or essay (dependent on the level of the students)
授業の形式・方法と履修上の注意 ／Teaching method and Attention the course	教科書を毎週１チャプターずつ読み、PorTaIIで配信された課題に答えて提出してもらう。 春学期中に何回か、ウェッブ会議システムを使って、内容についてディスカッションしてもらう。 また関連事項について、追加教材を配信するので、それについても読んでもらう。
事前・事後学修の内容 ／Before After Study	事前に、教科書の指定された章を精読する。 事後、教科書の内容に関連した追加教材を読む。

評価方法 ／Evaluation	毎回の授業で提出する課題80%、ディスカッションへの参加度30%

備考 ／Notes	課題はPDFの形にしてPorTaIIを通して配信します。課題提出はGoogle Formsを用います。また追加教材としてオンライン上の読み物を指定します。学期中、何回かウェッブ会議システム(Zoomを予定）を利用して、ディスカッションを行います。質問や意見はGoogle Formsおよびメールで受け付けます。
