授業の目的・内容 ／Course Objectives	This one-semester course is compulsory for first-year students. Overall Objectives 1. To increase their vocabulary and strategies for grasping meaning of vocabulary in texts 2. To review grammar and cohesive devises 3. To develop basic reading skills and strategies (pre-reading, during reading and after　reading strategies) 4. To develop comprehension strategies to understand reading materials without　translating them into Japanese 5. To clarify the structure of a paragraph or essay (dependent on the level of the students)

事前・事後学修の内容 ／Before After Study	テキストの指定された箇所を事前に精読しておいて下さい。また、授業で学んだ箇所を事後に復読して下さい。

評価方法 ／Evaluation	筆記試験をします。筆記試験は評価全体の６０％です。平常点も４０％ほど考慮します。 欠席が授業回数の１／３を超えた場合、単位を与えません。遅刻は３回で欠席１回分にカウントします。
