授業の目的・内容 ／Course Objectives	This one-semester course is compulsory for first-year students. Overall Objectives 1. To increase their vocabulary and strategies for grasping meaning of vocabulary in texts 2. To review grammar and cohesive devises 3. To develop basic reading skills and strategies (pre-reading, during reading and after　reading strategies) 4. To develop comprehension strategies to understand reading materials without　translating them into Japanese 5. To clarify the structure of a paragraph or essay (dependent on the level of the students)
授業の形式・方法と履修上の注意 ／Teaching method and Attention the course	In this class, pair work and group work will be used often and you are expected to collaborate with others and actively participate in class tasks. This class will be conducted in ENGLISH ONLY. I will contact you via email as well as via PorTa II as the main means of communication, but also I am planning to supplement the course with Zoom meetings as well as Google documents for sharing ideas and questions.
