授業の目的・内容
/Course Objectives
ドイツ語学科の3年次以上の学生を対象とする外国語科目で半期完結です。春・秋学期両方の履修も可能です。
Academic Reading/Listening Strategies I-IIで培った学術英語の基礎力を、専門的なテーマの研究、プレゼンテーション、論文作成に応用し、英語のリサーチスキルを習得することを目的とします。ドイツ語圏に関連したテーマを選び、研究動向を整理して内容を理解したうえで、批判的に考え (critical thinking)、自分の意見を表現できるようにします。学術的な言語技能として、図表の説明、論文でよく使われる表現、論展開の方法などを学びます。研究成果はリサーチペーパー(1000語以上)にまとめ、授業で発表します。授業活動は英語で行います。

◆ツール:Zoom(リアルタイム、同時双方向型)、My DOC(連絡事項、課題提示・提出先)

授業は、ゼミに準ずる形式で、リサーチペーパーの書き方について、講義と練習問題を通して理解する一方で、トピックの内容は、各自でリサーチの計画を立て、文献を調査し、発表し、論文にまとめることが求められる。

※原則として 4 回以上欠席した学生は成績評価対象とならない。ただし、健康上の理由やその他考慮すべき事由がある場合は担当教員に相談すること。

German Studies in English IやAcademic Writing I, IIを履修済み、英語のパラグラフ・ライティングの基礎を理解していることが望ましい。

英語力の目安:TOEIC 500

※第3回目の授業に予定している「図書館データベース・ガイダンス」の際、VPN接続が必要なので、各自、利用マニュアルを確認のうえ、PCの設定をしておくこと。

1 Course Introduction Overview of films in Germany and topics for research paper Watch a German film and write a critical review.
2 Selecting and Narrowing a Topic Choosing a topic and making it more specific Consider possible topics and keywords for search.
3 Library Database Guidance Workshop by a librarian on how to do research using the database Search for articles, choose one article for review, and prepare to present in class.
4 Presentations: Review of Academic articles Giving presentations on the articles from the library database Choose three articles for the following class.
5 Citations, Paraphrasing, Summarizing Understanding how to incorporate information from references Paraphrase or summarize the articles selected.
6 Outline, Thesis statement, Introduction Understanding how to write a thesis statement, an outline, and the introduction Write an outline, thesis, and the Introduction.
7 Computer skills: Peer review of Introduction Reading and giving feedback on other students’ Introduction Revise the Introduction based on the feedback.
8 Body sections: Main and Supporting ideas Understanding the organization of each section and each paragraph Write the Body sections and prepare for the Interim report.
9 Presentations: Interim report Giving presentations on the research by individual students Write the First draft including the Conclusion.
10 Tutorials for First draft Discussing how to revise the First Draft. Revise the First draft.
11 Graphs, Tables, Proofreading Understanding how to make graphs and tables, and do proofreading Write the Second draft and Include graphs, tables, and other figures.
12 Computer skills: Presentation slides Learning how to use computer for the presentation slide Prepare the slides for the Final presentation.
13 Presentations: Final report Giving final presentations on individual research. Write the Final draft including all the sections.
14 Final paper submission and self-reflection Submission of the final draft and complete the final draft check list Reflect on the Final draft and complete the checklist.
